Arlington County is located in the state of Virginia in the United States. It is sometimes referred to as a ‘city’ and is counted as a suburb of Washington D.C., but it is legally organized as a county. Students enrolled in English school in Arlington will find that they are staying in a hotbed area for everything having to do with American history. Visitors to the area should make sure to explore the entire Washington D.C. area, including the Smithsonian. The Smithsonian itself is best viewed over several days. It is the world’s largest museum complex as it includes 19 museums and the National Zoological Park. There are many other attractions to visit as well, including Arlington National Cemetery where visitors can see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and John F. Kennedy’s grave. The monuments on the Mall in DC are also worth seeing, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial. Be sure to make a reservation to visit the Pentagon in Arlington, tours are free, but reservations are required. Also make time to visit nearby Mount Vernon Estate, Museum and Gardens. This former home to George Washington is in a beautiful setting and is an interesting and educational stop. Students taking English courses in Arlington will find that the area has a very active arts scene with many options for plays, music and dance performances. Nightlife in the area is also very actives, with a variety of venues form blues clubs to saloons to sports bars.
