Manta is home to the largest seaport in Ecuador. Once an old fishing village, Manta, in the province of Manabi, is now a major port but still depends largely on the fishing industry for its economic well being. A mid-sized city, Manta is the fifth most populous in Ecuador. Once a trading post for the Mantas and the Incas, the city has existed since Pre-Columbian times. Students taking Spanish courses in Manta will undoubtedly be drawn to the beaches during their off time, where they’ll find a busy boardwalk with lots of restaurants, bars and discos. Manta is a popular port for a variety of cruise lines, meaning the nightlife and traffic on the boardwalk is ever changing. Located in a dry tropical forest, the climate in Manta is very welcoming. Students will want to make a stop at the Central Bank Museum which includes an exhibit detailing the seven cultures that initially inhabited the province of Manabi. Those looking for adventurous excursions might try hang gliding, parasailing, surfing, sailing or fishing. Visitors might also try a whale watching excursion, particularly during the months of June and September. Students attending Spanish school in Manta will also want to be sure to sample as much of the local cuisine as possible during their stay. Try the “viche de pescado”, an interesting dish combining tuna with peanuts, yucca corn and sweet potatoes. Many of the local dishes involve the area’s fresh and abundant seafood. Students will enjoy the inviting beach lifestyle and all it has to offer during their stay in Manta.
Montañita is well known for its awesome surf conditions. With a right hand point break at one end and un-crowded beginner waves along the whole coast we have surf to suit all abilities.
