Located in southern Spain, Seville is over 2000 years old. Seville truly represents everything that is beautiful about the region of Spain called Andalucia. Students taking Spanish courses in Seville will be exposed to great traditions like flamenco dancing and bull fighting. They will have the opportunity to explore the gardens of the 14th century Alcazar palace, or stroll along quaint medieval lanes. With a rich heritage, the art and architecture in Seville has influences from a broad range of cultures, including Roman, Islamic, Renaissance and baroque. Seville is the fourth largest city in Spain, and is home to numerous museums representing all aspects of the areas history. When students are not busy at Spanish school in Seville, they can explore the Flamenco Art Museum or the Maritime Museum. There is also a fascinating Archeological Museum, containing collections from the Tartessian and Roman periods. When not exploring the past, students will find plenty to keep them occupied in the present. In Seville students may find occasion to visit the theater, opera or ballet. For those looking for a fun night on the town, there are many trendy bars and night clubs home to active crowds nightly. The climate in Seville is relatively mild, with January being the coldest month. While staying in Seville, students will enjoy sampling the local cuisine, which typically includes delicious dishes with a Moorish influence, often using pork and seafood. Many enjoy sampling the local wines like Jerez, Manzanilla, and Montilla, each a great compliment to the variety of local dishes. Seville, with its abundance of flowery patios, tucked behind ornate gates is a welcoming and lively city.
