Yokohama International Education Academy is located at the heart of port city Yokohama, right in the vicinity of the most vibrant Minato-Mirai area. A great location! It was close to everywhere - near department stores, the station, and sightseeing spots! It was also easy to access Tokyo.
Teacher took good care of us! We were all like friends, but classes not much classes were available. We only learned Japanese from the book. It would be better in our classes we learned Japanese through songs, news, cooking, and so on. Another thing is about the activities. Compared with other schools, we had too little activities! Sure, learning is the most important part, but other activities are also important – like going to Tokyo Disneyland, Fujikyu Highland, and others.
What I liked:
- The place. The school is located near Sakuragicho station in a very quiet and beautiful area; moreover, it is very close to Minato Mirai - the heart of Yokohama. It takes just 10-15 min on foot to get there. The easy access to Tokyo makes this place a perfect choice to live.
- The classes. Apart from compulsory General Japanese classes 3 times a week, students can choose from a big variety of optional Japanese lessons, depending on what they like and what they need. For example, we had JLPT preparation classes, Business classes, Shingaku classes for those who want to study in a Japanese university or college and so on and so forth.
- The experienced teachers. Classes never were boring.
- Different kinds of support. The school will help you to find a part-time job if you need one or give you advice concerning life in Japan. You can always rely on the teachers and staff.
- Outdoor activities.
- Free kanji/ grammar classes for beginners.
.....and so on
What I did not like:
- Not enough attention is paid to kanji studies (at least in upper intermediate-advanced level classes). The majority of my classmates were Chinese, and it was hard for me to catch up with them. Basically, we didn't study kanji in class at all.
- Not enough speaking practice
