Located on the shore of Lake Lucerne, at the foot of the Swiss Alps, the city of Lucerne is a popular tourist destination. Students enrolled in German school in Lucerne might enjoy taking a steamboat ride to Vitznau where they can then catch the cog-wheel train up Mt. Rigi, where they can get an awe-inspiring panoramic look at Lucerne. The Chapel Bridge is one of Europe’s oldest wooden bridges, makes a nice spot for a stroll. Walking along the bridge, over the Reuss River, many visitors continue on to visit Old Town where historic houses are covered in frescos. There is much to see on foot in Lucerne, from historic landmarks to modern day structures like the cutting edge KKL concert hall and art gallery. Visitors to Lucerne should take advantage of the over 250 km of hiking paths, primarily used in the summer. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and more. Lake Lucerne also has several public swimming areas available. Students taking German courses in Lucerne can expect a central European climate during their stay.
