Sidmouth is a small town on the coast of Devon in South West England. The town is located at the mouth of the River Sid. Sidmouth originated as a tiny fishing village, but never succeeded in growing to a port. The town of Sidmouth enjoys a fairly mild climate, making it a popular spot for tourists. Students enrolled in English school in Sidmouth might enjoy visiting the Sidmouth Museum, housed in Hope Cottage. It includes a variety of artifacts that help tell the history of this town. For a unique excursion, check the public visiting days of the Norman Lockyer Observatory. Visitors will get a tour of the exhibition area and the telescope domes. If the sky is clear, be prepared to stay longer. If the observatory visit wasn’t unique enough, students taking English courses in Sidmouth consider taking a visit to the Donkey Sanctuary. The Sanctuary strives to educate the public on the plight of donkeys in the UK and the world, as many are mistreated in their use as working animals. Visitors in the area during the summer will enjoy participating in the Sidmouth Folk Week. The festival celebrates music from all over the world with a variety of performances and events throughout the week. Those ready for some outdoor activities might try sailing, surfing or a round of golf at one of the local courses. This charming town has a bit of everything, a picturesque setting, beautiful parks and gardens, peaceful beaches, friendly shops, good restaurants and unique attractions.
