Course description

UPP contains 3 different classes focusing on two primary components each: Grammar & Writing, Reading & Vocabulary, and Listening & Speaking. The main goal is to further develop and enhance the learners’ authentic language capabilities through a variety of high-level, student-centered activities incorporating advanced conversation, academic essay writing, and analytical reading skills. In addition, further focus is placed on preparing students for higher education studies.

Writing - includes an in-depth review and practice of important complex structures by developing various types of academic essays. The focus will be on standard, universally recognized forms of written essays and term papers accepted at American colleges and universities. Grammar usage is interwoven into the writing for a broad range of essay types and creative papers. The emphasis in grammar will be on fine-tuning and troubleshooting problem areas in relation to written statement.

Reading/Vocabulary - The goal is to refine the advanced skills of interpretation, inference, critical analysis, evaluation and application. There will be an emphasis on the review of basic comprehension skills like scanning and on more advanced skills such as humor and intention.

Listening/Speaking - Focuses on controlled, topic-related conversation and presentation skills. Through the use of authentic radio and video clips, students will further develop not only their basic comprehension skills, but also more sophisticated skills related to formulating opinions and arguments based on the issues presented in the listening passages.

"It deserves the price if someone wants to experience life in LA and learn English."

Kelly Huang, student from USA

The location is perfect, and the schedule as well. The classrooms are big enough and most activities are very funny. What I don't like is some teachers are not really good at teaching ESL students, but I know they are elevating their teaching skills.

"Short experience but highly recommended"

Emma Miñana, student from Spain

I was only in Los Angeles for two weeks, but I was able to take advantage of the classes and meet very cool people! The teachers are very attentive as are all the people in the school. The great location, you already have metro and bus options at all hours. my program was only given in the morning and I could only attend at night and without any problem they facilitated the change. I have really enjoyed the experience

"Teachers are great."

Qusy Bema, student from Saudi Arabia

I like how the teachers give us all lessons and they are so friendly. The times for all of the classes are so good and you can improve your language by talking with your partner. All of the tests are easy and you have a chance to make up work for the classes you were absent for.
I'm so thankful to have studied here. I really improved my language and also I'm happy with the service from the employees. Thank you.

visa

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying full time in the United States for more than 18 hours per week, you will receive an I-20 that you need to submit to the US embassy along with your F-1 student visa application. The I-20 has a SEVIS tracking number on it. Students who wish to apply for a student visa must pay the SEVIS fee online before going to the US embassy or consulate for their visa interview.

Your I-20 will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged $100 when you register.

Please note that United States law states that an I-20 can only be issued to students who intend to pursue full-time English language studies. United States law does not permit students to study part-time with an F-1 Student Visa. If you are studying for less than 18 hours per week, you have to apply for a Visitor Visa (B1/B2) on your own.
