"I had a great visit and learned a lot of Spanish."

David Merriman, student from USA

I spent two weeks in Antigua and had one-on-one lessons 6 hours per day--so I did 60 hours of lessons. Before going to Antigua I had studied with Mango languages and taken two hours per week of online lessons for about 9 months. I knew some basic Spanish but could not keep a conversation going for more than a few sentences. Maybe one or two times back and forth. After my two weeks in Antigua I can keep an extended conversation going for as much as an hour. My conjugations and tenses are still wrong, but I have enough vocabulary and sentence structure to communicate about many subjects. The people at the language school and the home stay were exceptionally kind. The weather was lovely in June.

The town is pretty small, but there are lots of things to do and it feels very welcoming for language learners. I did not try to do excursions to the mountains, lakes, etc., but I would have loved to do them if there was more time. My homestay was great. I had a very large room with a private bath. There were two other students in other rooms in the house. The hosts were exceptionally nice and also encouraged (but did not force) me to speak Spanish. The food was fine but not exceptional. The meals felt a little formal (3 meals a day at set times) but were fine.

By the way, I am a 71 year old male, native language is English, I also have spoken Japanese at an intermediate level but I do not know other European languages.

I highly recommend this experience if you want to push your Spanish level up quickly.

Dear David!Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review!

We are truly delighted to hear about the progress you made in just two weeks. Going from only a few exchanges in Spanish to holding conversations for up to an hour is a wonderful achievement, and your dedication before and during your stay certainly made a difference.

We're especially happy to know that you felt welcomed by both your teacher and your host family. Creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable practicing Spanish is one of our main goals.

Thank you as well for your honest comments about the meals. We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving the experience we offer our students.

It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope you'll have the opportunity to return someday to continue advancing your Spanish—and perhaps enjoy some of the beautiful excursions around Guatemala that you didn't have time to experience this visit.

We wish you all the best in your Spanish learning journey. ¡Hasta la próxima!

"Excellent customer service and fantastic teacher."

C Jason Brown, student from USA

There was a communication problem with the location of the school that had nothing to do with Language International and nothing to do this the school. The direction was mis-shown on MapQuest, and once got it figured out, Language International was 100% on top of it. That said, the teach I had 'Fernando' is the best teacher I've ever had. I've advance Spanish and have had many teachers.. but if you can get Fernando, your in good hands... Doesn't matter what level you are.. because he can explain complex topics from beginning to end, and for me he was perfect. You will not disappointed
