Course description

Study Greek on the island of Samos and join a unique educational and cultural experience offered by the Alexandria Institute.
Our Modern Greek Language & Culture Course is designed for students of all levels—from absolute beginners (A1) to advanced speakers (C2)—following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The goal of the program is to provide intensive, high-quality language instruction supported by meaningful cultural immersion.

Samos, with its rich history, natural beauty, and vibrant local traditions, is an ideal setting for learning Greek. Students not only improve their linguistic skills but also experience the island’s heritage, gastronomy, contemporary life and warm local community.

Program Overview

The Modern Greek course is an accelerated group program that places strong emphasis on speaking, communication skills, and practical use of language in real-life situations. Lessons are dynamic, interactive and designed to build confidence and fluency.

Classes combine:

Grammar, vocabulary & pronunciation

Reading, writing, listening & conversation

Cultural knowledge & real-life communication tasks

A wide variety of teaching materials are used, including textbooks, audio–visual resources, role-playing, authentic texts, newspaper articles, literary excerpts, and interactive exercises.

Teaching Approach

Our methodology is based on communicative, student-centered teaching. Each lesson aims to help students:

use Greek in everyday communicative contexts

develop fluency through guided dialogue and structured speaking tasks

expand vocabulary through thematic units and authentic materials

strengthen grammatical understanding through meaningful practice

interact with classmates in a motivating international environment

Teachers are specialized in teaching Greek as a foreign language and tailor the course to the needs, interests, and learning pace of each group.

Course Structure & Hours

The program includes 2 to 4 teaching hours per day, depending on the number of participants:

1 student: 2 hours/day

2 students: 3 hours/day

3–7 students: 4 hours/day

Classes generally take place in the morning, with flexibility to include occasional afternoon or evening sessions if needed. The schedule may include rest days or adjusted hours according to local events, weather conditions or availability of venues.

Cultural Program

To support language acquisition and deepen students’ understanding of Greece, the course is complemented by a rich cultural component. Activities may include:

Cultural walks in Ormos Marathokampos and nearby historical or natural sites

Visits to museums, archaeological locations or landmarks

Lectures or presentations on topics related to Greek culture, mythology, history or contemporary life
