My teacher was great. His wife made sure all my needs were met with nice meals. She even packed a lunch for me for my return trip home. Lovely people. I had a few hours of lesson in the morning watching a video or reading French text to improve my pronunciation. All meals were eaten together so was a good opportunity to speak and listen to French. After a few days I wrote down some questions in French for me to ask them as an ice breaker. It helped to keep the conversation lively and interesting. We were strangers after all.
In the afternoons my professor and I went on tours in the area. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area so it was interesting as well as using French.
I am just a beginner speaker so it was a lot to process, but got easier as the week progressed. My professor told me that was normal.
My room met all my needs and I had free time to spend time in my room, go for a walk etc. I also had my own bathroom, which was nice.
I learned a lot without really realizing it. Once I got home I would remember what my professor said about a certain word. I also felt freer to experiment building sentences and was amazed that I could do it.
I went home with a greater knowledge of the area, the culture and the language. I arrived as a stranger, but left as a friend.
