Course description

A Home Language International immersion course means you live the language you are learning and is the fastest, most natural way to learn.
You are staying in your teacher’s home, have one-to-one language lessons and continue to use and practise your language skills sharing the daily life of your teacher’s family during meals, conversations, visits and activities as they all take place in the language you are studying.

This programme includes:

Learn German & live in your private teacher's home around Freiburg with Home Language International!

Home Language International (HLI) is a family-run business offering language courses in more than 20 languages in over 30 countries worldwide, including German lessons at an experienced private teacher's home in Germany. More than 5,000 students take advantage of our services every year. Ian Josephs, Danielle Josephs, their 5 adult children and an expert team of dedicated staff all put in very long hours for HLI.

You stay in an experienced teacher's family home, have one-to-one German lessons and then continue to use the language during the rest of your stay in Freiburg. Because you are the only student, you are guaranteed individual attention. The lessons are completely designed for you, so the teacher will focus exactly on what you need. Mealtime conversation, television and social contacts are all in German.

All of our teachers in Germany have a university degree (or equivalent) and/or a recognised teaching certificate. All teachers have been visited by one of our local organisers. Their qualifications have been checked and their homes throughly inspected. During your stay in Freiburg, a local organiser will monitor your progress and make sure your experience is both happy and successful.

Home Language International (HLI) is accredited by the Accreditation Body for Language Services (ABLS), Association of Language Travel Organisations (ALTO), and UNOSEL.

"Frau Wolf is a very nice person who was very open and welcoming."

As noted, Frau Wolfe is a very nice person who wanted to make my stay comfortable. The room I stayed in was a good size and comfortable. The kitchen was not quite as clean as I would have liked. Frau Wolfe made very tasty food - the same meal lasted 2 days so I would have liked more variety. I also asked for organic food but generally it was not.
We did not do any outside activities together, though I was a bit limited for time as I had to check in with my work daily.
She was very talkative in between our lessons and it was good for me to be exposed in this immersive conversational way. I appreciated this.
I did not feel my level of German language was so well suited to Frau Wolfe's style. She did try hard and I was also trying but I did not make as much progress as I was expecting. I have since found working myself with books and online courses and using AI for exercises and grammar explanations has actually been helping more.
The course coordinator called on the first day I was there to check in. This was a bad idea - He knew Frau Wolfe was right there (I was speaking to him on her phone). So how an honest and direct reporting of how the visit was going was impossible. I think you should be embarrassed about the lack of thought you put into this.
Senden is not a great place for a visitor but Frau Wolfe's home is in a great location right inside a large park.
