The school of Saint-Denis has a long and distinguished history of more than 150 years. However, it was not until the former principal, Gérard Chatagnon, was appointed that the school got its distinctive international profile that it has today. The school is a combination of a regular high school, where foreigners can stay for a full academic year and a more traditional language school with classes lasting a few weeks during the summer. We offer preparation for both D.E.L.F. and D.A.L.F. examinations. The school has its own sporting facilities and numerous activities after classes.
The nationality and age mix at ELIT - Saint-Denis International School: Loches varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 16. In the summer, the average age is 16.

Saint Denis, established in 1858, is a private Catholic school under contract to the French State, situated in the Loire Valley with over 800 students on roll. It is composed of a preschool and primary school, Saint Martin, as well as a middle and high school, Saint Denis. We also offer a weekday boarding house for pupils in middle and high school and currently have over 400 boarding students.
The classes were helpful for me, because I was at the highest level, rather than learning grammatical concepts which most students in the classes had already covered, we engaged in conversations about a multitude of topics which forces someone to speak out using the French that they can manage. This method of teaching works best for gaining vocabulary and colloquialism; since the jardest aspect of learning a new language is speaking, practicing in a non-dire environment is ideal.
The teachers were aggreable, at least in my case; they had well prepared lesson plans and engaging worksheets and activities to follow along.
The location of the school in loches is perfect. While we can take a bus and still have access to fun activities, loches-- being a small city-- was safely open for students to visit within the city freely, giving us some freetime to shop or do as we needed.
The facilities were fine, I stayed in the dorms and it was nice. Though for some reason I was in a room with 4 people yet we had a room smaller than others who stayed in groups of 3-- we also only had 3 wardrobes and had to share between the 4 of us. Other than that, I disliked how the animateurs would lock our phones in the evening, I personally think that if someone is old enough to be a way from their family and stay in a dorm, they are able to be held responsible for phone usage and sleep.
The activities were fun, and the animateurs were nice.
Very good location along with good teachers who explain the language really well.

Hi Fernando,
It was really to have you at school. Teachers were enthusiastic about your progress. Enjoy the rest of your holidays.
Overall, I had a great experience at Saint-Denis International School: Loches. To begin with, my host family were so sweet and made me feel very comfortable in their home. As for the classes, they were interesting and informative. The teachers made sure to keep the class in order but we also had a lot of fun playing small games or completing tasks. The location of the camp was the only problem for me, really. Although Loches is a very pretty and historic town, there is not much to do in the town. I would have liked to have been in a bigger city with more to see outside of the school. Even though it was frustrating at times, Loches was so beautiful and I got to know it very well! Overall a great experience and I was well taken cared of!
