"I didn’t feel that I learned much French but I met some nice friends."

Athena Bouas, student from Canada

The teaching was disorganized, and didn’t seem to have a methodology. I didn’t attend the evening activities so I have no opinion on these, but the classes could have had a lesson, then some activities to follow. We were just given worksheets with a brief explanation and then would correct them after. The week project idea was a successful way of making us work together in French. My private lessons were disorganized and I don’t think I benefitted from them, part of the reason why is because I was only there for a week. I was given reading comprehension homework that was beyond my level and ended up doing my own work on my own time to at least learn something. I wanted proper materials like grammar and an aid in writing essays/responses to help me pass my academic French class next year, but instead got pages on Greek and Latin prefixes and suffixes ( I know how to speak Greek anyway lol) and expressions the French use for bread (We live in Quebec) Overall I was displeased with the private lessons purely because I don’t feel that they did anything. The regular lessons could have been fine had they been more organized.

A host family is like a home away from home that allows you to find the comfort and warmth of the familial cocoon but also offers an intensive practice of the language and an in-depth discovery of local life.

Our families, which have been carefully selected, provide help and assistance to their young guests and make sure that everything goes well. The students stay in double bedrooms and share the common rooms with the members of the family.

Breakfast and the evening meal are favourable moments where everyone meets and during which the students feel at home. The lunchtime meal is served in the cafeteria of the ESL course centre. On request and depending on availability, our students may be accommodated with a friend.
