Experience English: Autumn Moments is an 8-day English course and holiday in Scotland for adult second-language English speakers at intermediate level and above.
**The course begins on Friday and runs for 8 days, including the full weekend. Saturday and Sunday are part of the Experience English programme, not free days.**
All Experience English holidays are no-classroom English experiences. Instead of separating English lessons from activities, we create situations where you need and want to use English naturally. The English isn't separated from the experience: using it is the experience.
**What makes Autumn Moments different is its pace.** We deliberately allow nature and the Scottish autumn to set the rhythm of the week. Rather than trying to see as much as possible, we make time to notice what is changing around us, stay longer in interesting places and enjoy experiences without always needing to turn them into achievements.
Based in Crieff, Perthshire, we explore the season through landscape, wildlife, seasonal food, historic places, culture, arts and crafts, and encounters with local people.
Ruth is an experienced language coach with an arts background and extensive experience of sharing Scottish place, culture and wildlife with international guests. She brings these together to create experiences that give you something genuinely interesting to notice, ask about, make, explore and discuss. Where specialist knowledge is valuable, we also work with local nature guides, growers, artists, makers and other experts.
Your week might include walking through autumn woodland, canoeing on a Scottish loch, travelling across Loch Katrine by boat, spending time with a nature guide, watching seasonal and migrating birds, visiting a farm or grower, cooking with autumn produce, making arts and crafts, exploring castles and historic places, or meeting local artists and makers. Activities vary according to the season, weather, local opportunities and the interests of the group.
Many participants have spent years learning English through courses, books, work, travel and independent study. Autumn Moments gives particular attention to something they may have had fewer opportunities to develop: sustained fluency and greater comfort using the English they already know.
The maximum group size is three. This allows us to shape the experience around the people taking part while giving everyone plenty of genuine conversation and individual language support.
The course is particularly well suited to adults who enjoy being in nature, historic Scotland, wildlife, seasonal food, culture, making things and meaningful conversation. You should enjoy being outdoors and be comfortable walking approximately 8–10 kilometres in a day.
Before booking, we arrange a short Zoom conversation to make sure you understand our unusual approach and that Experience English is what you are looking for. This is a friendly conversation, not a test or English-level assessment. After booking, we use WhatsApp to learn more about your interests and help shape your holiday before you arrive.

Blue Noun is an independent English language school in Scotland specialising in **real-world English use, not classroom-based study**.
Our programmes are designed for adults who already have English but don’t get enough opportunities to use it confidently in real life. Many of our guests have studied English for years and are competent on paper, but feel stuck, hesitant, or disconnected when it comes to speaking naturally.
**Instead of teaching English through traditional lessons, we create situations where people need and want to use it.** Language development happens through conversation, shared activities and meaningful interaction in everyday settings. English is used as a tool for communication — not treated as an academic subject.
Programmes take place in small groups in Scotland. Walking, culture, food, travel, creative experiences and encounters with local people create genuine reasons to communicate, while Blue Noun provides language support and coaching as part of the experience.
The focus is on fluency, confidence and ease — helping people bring together the English they already know and use it in real communication.
Blue Noun is particularly suited to adults who want to move beyond **“learning more English”** and start using English more comfortably in their lives, work and travel.
The nationality and age mix at Blue Noun Language Hub varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 43. In the summer, the average age is 43.
Blue Noun teaches students from all over the world, including:
Crieff is a medium-sized, friendly town in the heart of Perthshire, central Scotland — surrounded by Highland scenery yet easy to reach from both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports. Located just 20 miles from Perth and Stirling, Crieff offers the feeling of the Highlands without the remoteness.
Set among ancient woodlands, lochs, rivers, and gentle hills, the area is ideal for slow walks, quiet reflection, and unhurried exploration. Locals often refer to “Perthshire time”: visitors arrive with busy lives and soon find themselves slowing down, noticing the landscape, and settling into a gentler rhythm.
Life here moves at a calmer pace, creating space to connect — with the place, the seasons, Scottish culture, and the English language you’re here to practise.
Our school is located in Crieff town centre, within easy walking distance of shops, cafés, and local amenities, and well connected to the rest of Scotland.
Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Perth. These homes are often between 10 - 20 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. The school is also not authorized to issue documents to support your visa application. If you need a visa, you have to apply for a visitor or tourist visa on your own.
Please note that we do not book flights for our students. If you are researching airfare costs, we recommend using Kayak.com, a search engine that lets you compare flight options from your home country to Perth based on your budget, schedule and preferences.
