Course description

C1 German course - Advanced - Competent use of language

Requirements

The intensive course of level C1 follows on from the B2 course of our educational institution. If you are not sure whether you can take the C1 course, we recommend that you take a free placement test before enrolling at our educational institution so that you take the right course. We are also happy to fill in any gaps in your knowledge that may exist. For example, if your B2 course was some time ago, our teachers will be happy to help you brush up on what you have already learned. An open atmosphere, where questions can be asked, is especially important to us.

They should have a solid basic vocabulary and be able to make their language use more interesting by variation. Spontaneous and fluent conversations as well as conversations about complex detailed content should not be a problem for you. In addition, you can handle different text genres and know their conventions and are able to read complex texts and classify them. You should also be able to communicate fluently with native speakers and follow a lecture.

Course structure & Our methodology

The aim of the C1 course is to enable the participants to speak with confidence in everyday, professional and social life as well as in training and study. Participants should be able to express themselves clearly and distinctly, in a well-structured and detailed manner, even on complex and abstract issues. They should be able to understand a wide range of demanding and longer texts and to grasp implicit meanings. You can express yourself precisely and write competently to a wide range of audiences. You can also use language flexibly in personal correspondence and can use and understand allusions and jokes. Learners are guided to develop a reader-friendly and personal style in order to be able to express themselves convincingly. Well-structured, detailed reports or fictional descriptions are also easy for our participants to master.

Language level at the end of the course

You can follow lectures at the university after successful completion of the course and also make exact notes so that others could use them. You can summarize and work with long, demanding texts. Vocabulary is encouraged and expanded to such an extent that, although you do not yet have a complete vocabulary, you can easily find paraphrases for a word you are looking for. Besides idiomatic expressions, you can also use colloquial expressions almost effortlessly. Our teachers enable you to maintain a high level of grammatical accuracy. After the course, you should also consistently use correct spelling and punctuation, with the exception of a few mistakes. In the same way, our students are constantly encouraged to speak actively and can speak in a well-structured and clear manner, making appropriate use of linguistic shortcuts.

You can then also make your own opinion clear and make your own gradations in, for example, safety/uncertainty or probability/improbability effectively clear. You can also express yourself spontaneously on less familiar or unfamiliar topics because you have access to a wide range of linguistic (auxiliary) tools.

Your vocabulary is about 3500 words.

An advanced level German learner is able to understand up to 24 000 words.

Final Examination & Certificate

At the end of the course you will write an internal examination of the educational institution, which is based on the examinations of the Goethe-Institut. You will also write a short test every week to check your language level. In this way we ensure that you will pass the final exam. These are included in the course fees.

You also have the option of taking a telc Deutsch C1/ Zertifikat Deutsch C1 exam, which is subject to additional costs. You can find more information about the telc examinations on our homepage.
