For Bildungsurlaub students seeking to study English and learn about British culture, we offer our Confident English course for women over 50.
Confident English is a general English course in Bath designed for women over 50 aiming to boost their English skills for travel, life and work, while exploring the city of Bath. You will be studying in a small group, ensuring you get personalised tuition as well as the opportunity to practise in a real-world context.
This course combines classroom lessons with educational/cultural activities, with a total of 25 hours per week. You can choose either a 1 or 2 week course. The course will develop your general English language skills, focusing on building your confidence in communicating with people at all English levels.
Each morning, you will have three hours of lessons at the school and after the lunch break, you will have two hours of educational and cultural activities, designed to improve your English. Your teacher will guide you as you apply your English to real-life situations, giving you the chance to ask questions and enrich your vocabulary. You will learn the English phrases and expressions that are required for everyday communication and the teacher will summarise the skills learnt at the end of each day.
The city is your classroom: afternoon activities help you make the most of the fantastic city of Bath. These include guided walks around Bath, visits to historic sites, iconic landmarks, museums and art galleries, and even solving a Murder Mystery in the city. You’ll be walking through streets and passing buildings made famous by Jane Austen and series such as Bridgerton and McDonald & Dodds.

Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Bath. These homes are often between 25 - 50 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from . Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.
If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
