UKBA Approved English Test for September Intake

uk-visa-regulations

We would like to inform you of further developments regarding the UK Visa and Testing Policy. As many of you are aware, there have been significant changes to the visa application process for students going to the UK.

For the September intake, while we continue to wait for the UKBA to clarify which third party tests will form part of the Tier 4 General Student Visa (GSV) system, we have taken the decision to recognize Password as an accepted third-party English language test, as we anticipate that this will become a UKBA-approved test.

For those who are not familiar with the Password English language test, Password tests are securely delivered and assessed online, and test-takers receive instant test results. Here’s an overview of the Password test:

  • 12 “Can Do” questions (not timed)
  • 72 questions (timed)
  • 90 minutes
  • 5 sections + written test

If you intend to take the Password test and would like to prepare for it, take a practice test.

Who has to take a third party test?

All students from countries who are currently required to provide evidence of their English proficiency by way of a formal English test.

Who does not have to take a third party test?

Anyone who can provide the following documentation:

  • A secondary school attendance record or leaving certificate showing the student has had English classes for 3-5 years
  • A secondary school examination certificate showing a level of English achievement
  • An attendance certificate from evening classes in English language
  • College or University certificate showing attendance and achievement in an English course
  • Previous IELTS test score
  • University of Cambridge ESOL certificate
  • TOEFL certificate
  • TOEIC certificate
  • A reference from an appropriately qualified person to state that the student has previously studied English, citing course name and dates. The referee must also give their contact details on headed paper and interview the student to confirm their level of English is sufficient for the course.

How will students take the Password test?

The test can be taken online at home. For more information, please visit the Password website.

  1. dears,
hi how r u ??? im in iraq in sulaimaia city i just want to know how much must pay for the exam ….because here i paid more than 130$

  2. Hi Dilman,

Prices vary depending on which type of exam you want to take and where you want to take the exam. For example, in the USA, the TOEFL exam costs $150. In the UK, the TOEFL ibt is $185 while the paper-based TOEFL is $150.

  3. Hi,

I was supposed to take the Password test months ago when they told me that UKBA changes policy in English testing required me to take another test, whilst in Indonesia the TOEFL/IELTS/PEARSON is cost $165-$190 (it is like one’s paycheck per month in Indonesia). The agent in Singapore was willing to offer me the Password test for free before he told me about the UKBA changes policy, and now I’m not sure I can take this test for September intake since I think it’s a little bit too late or whether the offer still available for me. I wonder is there Password testing test center in Indonesia or will be established in Indonesia, so that no future student like me can experience the same thing like me.

    Thanks.

  4. hi.. im coming to Uk on a spouse visa, as my hubby is settled there and he has already applied for his Permanent Residence…. could you help me with:
the English test that i need to take, what is the scoring required for spouse visa?

    Thanz.

  5. Jamal, unfortunately we are not affiliated with that website and therefore do not have the answers to their practice test. I suggest that you reach out to the owners of that site and check if they have the answer key. Good luck!

  6. Kainaath, unfortunately we are not experts in visas for spouses of UK residents, so I would suggest that you check the UKBA website (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/) for the most up-to-date information. What we do know is that for students here are the minimum required TOEFL scores:

    Listening – 13
    Reading – 8
    Writing – 17
    Speaking – 19

  7. Reni, I understand that the cost of TOEFL/IELTS/PEARSON courses are prohibitive. Unfortunately, we do not have any information on when the Password test will be available in Indonesia. Will keep you updated in case we hear something! Good luck!
