Helau! That’s how  you would be greeted in most German cities during the fifth season of the year – Carnival or Mardi Gras. The various traditions and customs preceding Lent are also called Fasching in German, and are meant to drive winter away through lighthearted festivities that include fantastic costumes and sweet treats.

In the two main Carnival strongholds, Cologne and Mainz, you will experience a lively German Carnival with exciting celebrations, spectacular parades and magnificent costumes. Both cities can be easily reached by train from the did deutsch-institut Frankfurt and the did deutsch-institut Wiesbaden.

In addition to Carnival, the did deutsch-institut has another highlight in store for February, 2010. Participants who register for a course at one of our four institutes on February 14th or 15th can bring a Valentine partner along who will receive a 50% tuition discount on the same course as that originally booked.
