The town of Bridgwater is a market town and a civil parish located in Somerset, England. It also serves as the administrative center of the Sedgermoor District. It sits in south west England. The town is located along the River Parrett, just 10 miles from the mouth of the river. The area has long been used as a port and trading center. Students enrolled in English school in Bridgwater should be sure to visit the Castle House. The Castle House was built in 1851. One of the attraction’s most interesting features is its use of concrete, which is considered very innovative for that time. Also be sure to stop by the Blake Museum. It was built either during the late 15th or the early 16th century. Also be sure to stop by St. Mary Magdalene’s Church. Although it has been altered over time by the restoration efforts, it still has windows dating back from the 14th century and an impressive170 foot spire. Students taking English courses in Bridgewater might have the opportunity to participate in the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes carnival. It is held each year on whichever Friday falls closest to November 5th. The carnival attracts over 150,000 guests each year. Another popular event is the Somerfest. This event celebrates the arts including rock, jazz, classical, dance, theater, visual arts and more. It draws participants from all over the nation. Students can expect to experience a temperate climate while in Bridgwater.
