We keep our class sizes small (no more than 10 students in each class). Our teachers are friendly and highly qualified. They are focused on creating a lively, stimulating classroom atmosphere. Students take part in continual assessments to monitor their progress in English.
One-on-one monthly tutorials are held to ensure students are meeting their goals. Students also continue to improve their English conversation skills outside of school in our excellent homestays.
Learn English at Evakona Education
We have two school campuses: Whitianga and Thames. They are both on the Coromandel Peninsula, one of the most beautiful tourist areas in New Zealand.
Our focus on ‘using’ language in a practical way is what makes so many of our students excel. In fact, our students routinely score higher than the national averages in test scores. However, don’t just rely on what we say, explore for yourself and contact us if you have any questions that haven’t been answered on this website. Welcome to your English learning voyage!
The nationality and age mix at Evakona Education varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 16. In the summer, the average age is 16.

The Coromandel Peninsula is New Zealand’s favourite holiday destination. People from Auckland, Hamilton and other cities come here to relax on the white sandy beaches, enjoy fishing, surfing, other marine sports and life in the beach towns.
Framed by native Pohutukawa trees on the western side, beautiful white sandy beaches in the east and divided by ranges cloaked in native rainforest, the Coromandel’s 400 kms of coastline offer the visitor a truly distinctive blend of experiences.

I do not have Housing and Activities in School. I like my teacher because she trained me how to use the bike.

It has been a little more than 9 years since I arrived in New Zealand and if you were to ask me my best time in New Zealand, I will certainly say that it was when I was studying at Evakona. At this moment, you may get suspicious and may think of this review as a somewhat fake advertisement, for saying that the best time was when I was studying, but well, it literally was. Whether you believe it or not, it was my first time to feel that the studying was fun.
When I first arrived in New Zealand, I was 16. Then, I was an ordinary adolescent boy who was not a fan of school and preferred playing computer games than studying. I literally had no interest in New Zealand, English or whatsoever. My father randomly googled and accidentally found Evakona and he advised me to study English in New Zealand for three months through a winter school holiday (summer in NZ). That’s how I was introduced to Evakona. At the beginning, everything around me was series of challenges and my English was so poor then that I could not even introduce myself properly. I was shy and very passive due to fear and lack of confidence in English but I slowly changed. Not only Evakona’s absolutely friendly environment helped me but also enthusiastic staffs kindly guided me through. I was so fascinated by Evakona and New Zealand that I continued studying in New Zealand. As a result, I still live in New Zealand and I managed to graduate Thames High school and Auckland University. I truly believe that if I studied in other English academies, I would not have been able to achieve my goals.
When I have chances, I always recommend Evakona to my friends. Just because I believe it is one of the best places to learn English. Who knows, you may live a new life like me.
I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge with the deepest appreciation to all wonderful staffs of Evakona. You guys are absolutely amazing. I also would like to express my gratitude to Joerg. I loved his passionate lessons and without his encouragement, I would not have completed my university course.
I have been living in New Zealand for four years and I spent my first year of my study at the Evakona Education, doing the high school preparation course. There were so many things that I did not know as my English was limited the first time, however, all the teachers and staff did not get sick of me asking questions and their cooperative attitude made it easier for me to spend my school and daily life. My home-stay family was so kind and they took me around Whitianga often, I think I was so lucky to be a part of their family. There were so many opportunities to make new friends, not only people from the same country. This opportunity gave me a chance to learn and embrace their own culture and their language. The school location was so good as I could go to the beach every day after school when the weather was nice and hot. The most memorable thing that I did during the study at the school was to participate in "Spirit of Adventure" I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help Evakona gave me. One thing that I think it would be better for Evakona to have is more variety of students with different nationalities, as Evakona is really good for Japanese students, it seems like there are so many Japanese people making their own community which makes harder for non-Japanese people to have a comfortable school life. After one year of study at Evakona, I moved to a local secondary school in Rotorua. I had such an amazing time in Rotorua which I will never forget about. I gained all of those unforgettable experiences because I chose to go to Evakona in the very first place. I really appreciate all the help Evakona gave me.
