Oaxaca is the capital city of its namesake state and is located in southern Mexico. It is an ancient city that has had ties with the Zapotec, Mixtec, Aztecs and eventually the Spanish throughout history, and has changed names almost as many times as it has changed hands. Nowadays, Oaxaca is a very popular tourist destination and is a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its architecture, cultural traditions, cuisine, and more. The town has three peak tourism seasons: Holy Week, summer and over the New Year.
