Historic university town at Lake Constance Constance is a lively university town of 82,000 people and is located right on the banks of Lake Constance (Bodensee), often playfully referred to as the “Swabian Sea.” The city has a very attractive historic downtown area, where buildings from the Middle Ages stand alongside Renaissance houses and Baroque palaces; they bear witness to the prosperity of this venerable trading town. Thanks to its proximity to the Swiss border Constance was spared from destruction in World War II. Wide range of cultural events The brilliant setting of the town on the shores of the lake and in the foothills of the Alps makes Constance a very attractive program site and facilitates a great variety of leisure opportunities. Due to the modern University, which is one of only 10 Elite Universities of Germany, the city has a fantastic infrastructure for international students and offers a wide range of cultural events, e.g., music, theater and film festivals, jazz performances and literature meetings, as well as a large number of bars, cafés, clubs and restaurants.
