Pamplona is the capital of the northern province Navarra and due to its location (near the Basque Country and on the French border), you will find both Basque and French influences. An old fortified town, Pamplona is surrounded by nature of unrivalled beauty, this is in part thanks to its (Cantabric) Sea climate. The American writer Ernest Hemingway loved Pamplona for its “Running of Bulls” fiesta which is one of Spain´s most famous celebrations, it forms part of the popular festival of San Fermines (06-07 / 14-07) and attracts thousands of visitors every year. In August the Pamplona Festival takes place and various open air concerts are organized throughout the whole city. During this time Pamplona’s parks and streets such as ‘La Tejería’ and the ‘Paseo de Saraste’ are beautifully decorated in tune with the festive spirit. To sum up in a few words: Pamplona is a pleasant, authentic, festive town and has a lively night life with a large student population thanks to its two universities.
