Naples is the largest city in Southern Italy. Filled with historical statues and monuments, this romantic city is often referred to as an open air museum. Naples was founded by Greek colonist, but not much is known about this city’s earliest days. Home to several different civilizations during its history, Naples has obvious traces of each in its art and architecture. Students attending Italian school in Naples will quickly fall in love with this ancient city. With strong contributions to art and music, including the invention of the romantic guitar and mandolin, Naples is known for its opera and theater houses. The local cuisine also has its own touch of history, with the city being the home of the first pizzas, originally fried before evolving into the oven baked version most familiar today.
