The city of Asti is probably best known for its production of Italy’s top sparkling wine, Asti Spumante. Located in the Piedmont region of north western Italy, it is thought that the city’s name comes from the Ligurians who named it ‘Ast’ which means hill or high ground. Students enrolled in Italian school in Asti will enjoy exploring this medieval town. With much of its historic center still retaining its original charm, this city is known for welcoming visitors with a very traditional Italian experience. The cathedral in Asti is the largest in Piedmont and was built in the 14th century and is the home to a variety of 15th and 16th century paintings, frescoes and carvings.
