Hamburg, located in Northern Germany, is located on the Elbe River and is the second largest city in Germany by population. Hamburg is also a city-state and it is one of the smallest, by size, of the sixteen states in Germany. Along with being an important port city, Hamburg has become a vital area for media and industrial companies as well. Many of Germany's newspapers and magazines are located in Hamburg. The city also has beautiful ancient architecture, including the world-famous St. Michaelis Church often referred to as "Michel".
