The city of Aix en Provence was founded by the Romans in 123 BC. It is located in the south of France and is known for its thermal hot springs. It is considered a prestigious student hub as it is home to the Universite de Provence Aix-Marseille, established in 1409. Students enrolled in French school in Aix en Provence will enjoy the city’s youthful population. With its more than 300 days per year of sunshine, Aix en Provence is a popular destination where visitors stroll down the main thoroughfare, Cours Mirabeau, which divides the old town and the new town. There are a variety of bookstores, shops, and elegant 17th and 18th century mansions lining the city’s streets and squares. It uses a variety of beautiful venues for its events including the former garden of the archbishop’s palace and the Grand Theatre de Provence. Some events are also staged in the outdoor Theatre du Grand Saint-Jean just outside of Aix.
