Torbay is one of the bays located along the self-proclaimed "English Riviera", an east facing bay area in southwest England. It is a popular destination for tourists because of its warm year-round sunny climate (it boasts the most sun-soaked hours in all of England), and many visiting students also study English courses in Torbay. When students at an English school in Torbay are not in class, they can practice their new speaking skills at some of the nearby attractions and towns, including the beaches of Oddicombe and Babbacombe, local theaters and restaurants, pubs, or the many public spots made famous by crime writer and native Agatha Christie. In fact, tributes to Agatha Christie can be found around almost every corner in the area; as a part of the English language learning process, students may want to grab a Christie novel or two and sit along the waterfront as they learn about their new language, new culture, and this world-famous crime writer all at once!
