Burnaby is located in the center of the Metro Vancouver area in Canada. It is the third most populated urban center in British Columbia with an estimated population of over 200,000. Burnaby first served as a rural agricultural area supplying nearby markets, but as Vancouver expanded and became a metropolis, Burnaby changed and became a major suburb of the area. There are many major parklands and waterways in Burnaby, and including Burnaby Lake, Still Creek, the Brunette River, Central Park, Deer Lake, and Burnaby Mountain. For visitors who enjoy sports, Burnaby is home to the Vancouver Whitecaps, a professional soccer team, and Swangard Stadium where they play, also hosts other sporting events. Students interested in learning at an English school in Burnaby can practice their English while they cheer on the local teams. Burnaby also has several large shopping malls, where students can shop and practice their new language skills. The city is home to a diverse population of residents, and more than half of the population speaks a first language other than English or French!
