The city of Ojai is located in Ventura County in southern California. The original inhabitants of the valley were the Chumash Indians. They named the area Ojai which means “Valley of the Moon”. Later the area was home to a cattle ranch and eventually was sold to prospectors looking for oil. By 1864 the area was settled. Eventually Edward Libbey, owner of the Libbey Glass Company, became a major factor in the city’s history as he helped finance and build a new downtown.
