The city of Macomb is located in McDonough County in the state of Illinois. It was founded in 1830. It is in the western portion of the state and is home to Western Illinois University. Agriculture has played a major part in the local economy for all of its history. On the tour, visitors can view nearly 30 barns built in the early 20th century. Some are still in use, while others are simply a reminder of days gone by. Be sure to stop by the historical McDonough County Courthouse, built in 1872 in the heart of downtown for another glimpse into the past. Students in the area during the month of September will enjoy the Macomb Balloon Rally, where a variety of colorful hot air balloons are the main attraction.
