Folkestone is located in southern England. It is the principal town in the Shepway District of Kent. The settlement was a fishing village at one point in time, but by the start of the Tudor period, it was a basically a town. With the advent of the harbor in the early 1800s and the arrival of the railways in 1843, the town’s future was secured. Now known as both a port and a seaside resort, Folkestone has much to offer. Students enrolled in English school in Folkestone might enjoy a stroll along the Leas. It is a mile long promenade at the top of the cliffs that passes numerous hotels, a concert hall, art gallery and an exhibition center. Be sure to spend some time exploring Old High Street and Bayle. This is known as the Creative Quarter where visitors can find a variety of galleries by artists in all genres including sculptors, potters, painters and more. Stop in to the Battle of Britain Museum which shows a variety of artifacts from the important battle. Visitors might also enjoy spending time in the Lower Leas Coastal Park. Here, visitors might catch a live performance of either theater or music during the summertime. Another interesting fact – Folkestone is the site of the British entrance to the Channel Tunnel. The Channel Tunnel is an undersea rail tunnel connecting the United Kingdom and France.
