Ephraim is a very small village located in the state of Wisconsin. The entire village rests on just under four square miles of land. The village was founded in 1853 by the Reverend Andreas Iverson as a religious community. The Ephraim Historical Foundation offers walking tours of the village, as many original structures have been preserved over time. The village, in keeping with its religious foundation, has prohibited any alcohol sales or production within its boundaries. With its scenic location on the shores of Eagle Harbor, visitors will want to venture out and explore via jet skis, kayaks or paddle boats. Peninsula State Park is directly across the harbor, and is another great place to explore. It boasts miles of beautiful shoreline, a lighthouse, a golf course and more. In the summer, the park offers shows ‘under the stars’ in the Peninsula State Park Theater. Students taking English courses in Ephriam will love exploring the quaint shops in Ephraim. Many are set in old barns, rustic log cabins or vintage homes, adding to their charm. You’ll find a range of shops including clothing, jewelry, antiques, home décor and more. In the fall, venture over to nearby Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek to catch some regional theater. The climate in Ephraim is considered temperate which means it has warm summers and cold winters. Each year in mid June the village looks back to its Scandinavian roots to celebrate the festival of Fyr Bal. Bonfires burn along the shoreline as visitors gather to celebrate the start of summer.
