Canberra is the national capital city of Australia and is located in the Australian Capital Territory. It is a fairly large city with a population over 300,000. The city is well known for its excellent upkeep, including roads, parks, and architecture. Part of this was because the city was built up after it was named Australia's national capital city in 1908, and the location was chosen because it was essentially the halfway point between New South Wales and Victoria. In fact, Canberra is actually an aboriginal word that means "meeting place". Canberra is also filled with beautiful parks and has many gorgeous hills and lakes. While in Australia's national capital city, students interested in English school in Canberra can enjoy the layout of the city, or get outside of its boundaries and go kayaking, hot air ballooning, or hiking at one of the many nearby hills and mountains. Well known Mount Ainslie, for example, is just a ten minute drive outside of the city. Students who are taking English courses in Canberra will also have plenty of opportunities to practice their new language skills as well - as the people in and around the city are friendly and welcoming, and happy to chat any time of day. Head to a local pub or wine bar to sample some real Aussie flavor, and you may find yourself speaking fluent English before you know it!
