Brooklyn is one of New York City’s “five boroughs” and in the early 20th century it was a haven for many immigrants arriving from Ellis Island. Brooklyn has seen many changes over the past 100 years or so, from an immigrant rich population, to a rundown area, and nowadays these restored neighborhoods have become the homes of young professional workers and families who generally commute to Manhattan for work – many over the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. Students who decide to attend English school in Brooklyn should definitely take a walk or bike ride over the Brooklyn Bridge at some point to see the beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. Brooklyn is a hotspot for artists and musicians as well, so students taking English courses in Brooklyn can head to local music spots, bars, or the Brooklyn Academy of Music to listen to some great music. After class, students can walk through Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens if they want to see some trees and nature in an urban area. For the hungry English student, try taking a trip to Coney Island for a famous hotdog or grab a world famous bagel just about anywhere. Students will love this lively area that is just steps from Downtown Manhattan, without all the hustle and bustle of the big city.
