The town of Blacksburg is located in the state of Virginia in the United States. The first European settlers to this general area arrived in 1671. The town of Blacksburg was officially founded in January of 1798. Blacksburg is home to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, more commonly called Virginia Tech. Students enrolled in English school in Blacksburg will enjoy getting to know the town. Head to the Market Square Park on Tuesday evenings to catch the Market Square Jam. Local musicians gather together weekly to try out some tunes, typically jamming with blue grass, folk, or blues music. Anyone is welcome to join in, or just listen. The Market Square also plays home to the local Farmer’s Market, offering great local produce, as the community tries to encourage residents and visitors to ‘buy local’. Be sure to visit the Historic Smithfield Plantation to learn about frontier life, while touring the beautiful home and gardens.
