Bellingham is located on the shores of Bellingham Bay on the coast of Washington state. It is 90 miles north of Seattle and just 21 miles south of the Canadian border. The city was incorporated in 1904. The city is actually the combination of 4 separate towns that were combined to make Bellingham. Students enrolled in English school in Bellingham will find that the city, although small, has much to offer. Be sure to visit the Whatcom Museum. The museum includes exhibits on art, nature and history or the Northwest. Consider taking a whale watching cruise. Many companies offer these excursions, drawing a great number of locals as well as visitors. Explore the historic Fairhaven District and visit some of the various galleries. In the summer, catch the Bellingham Festival of Music celebrating classical music. Students taking English courses in Bellingham might enjoy venturing out to visit the nearby cities of Vancouver or Victoria, each having their own unique charm. In the winter, many visitors love to head to Mt. Baker for some skiing or snowboarding. From April through December, be sure to stop by the Bellingham Farmers Market which features more than 50 vendors, live music and more. For some great scenery, spend time exploring Whatcom Falls Park. Get some exercise along the park’s walking trails. Bellingham has a fairly mild climate but does have a long rainy season.
