Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire. It is located in the East of England. It is considered a large town and it serves as the administrative center for the Borough of Bedford. Bedford was likely a market town from the early Middle Ages. Students enrolled in English school in Bedford will find that there are a number of historic sites to visit in the town. Be sure to spend some time at the Bedford Museum. There visitors can see a number of Anglo Saxon and Roman artifacts and can learn about the history of the area. When it is time to relax outdoors, students should consider a trip to the Bedford Park. This Victorian park is located to the north of the town center and is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are also a couple of interesting churches in town that are worth visiting. Make time to see both St. Paul’s Church which has an over 700 year old history, as well as St. Peter’s Church. Visitors might find both the architecture and the history of each of these churches to be both interesting and educational. Another unique site is the Castle Mound. This area is the remains of a castle built in 919 and then later destroyed in 1224. Students taking English courses in Bedford will find that there are a number of delicious restaurants in town, including an American diner and an Indian restaurant. Students lucky enough to be in town during May might get to witness Britain’s largest river rowing regatta. It is called the Bedford Regatta and is held annually.
