The city of Ashland is located in Jackson County in the state of Oregon in the United States. It sits in the south end of the Rogue Valley and is surrounded by some of the most majestic scenery in the Pacific Northwest. Originally inhabited by the Shasta Indians, the first European settlers were drawn to the area for gold, hunting and trapping. Students enrolled in English school in Ashland might enjoy taking a walking tour of the Historic Railroad District. The area is home to a number of unique shops and galleries, all in the area where the Golden Spike was driven to mark the railroad’s completion. Visitors should be sure to explore the great outdoors while in the area. Nearby Crater Lake National Park is a must see. Students might also enjoy the adventure of white water rafting on the Rogue River. Rock climbing is another popular pastime in the area. Students taking English courses in Ashland will find that the city plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year, many having to do with its local arts scene. There are Christmas celebrations in the winter, a film festival each spring, a classical music festival in the summer, and wine tasting events in the fall, to name a few. The area is known for its mild climate. Summers can get fairly warm. Snowfall is minimal in the winter at lower elevations.
