The Standard Course focuses on learning and actively using language structures – this way the instruction is very much practice oriented. But what does this actually mean? Your teacher will assign you an active role while studying German and will draw you and your fellow students directly into his interactive instruction. We try to avoid that you just sit there passively, listening what the teacher is going to explain up front. Your teacher will help you studying the language by instructing you clearly and thus enabling you to develop and to explain grammatical rules and structures on your own and independently. Because only when you actively understand what you’ve learned you will also memorize and internalize it permanently!
In the Standard Course, German language will always be practiced and taught in context by using as far as possible authentic, everyday life language situations. This way you will study language in everyday, professional and university situations – after all, you study towards a well-defined goal and you want to focus on that from the very beginning. Through this practical orientation of the Standard Course, already after a very short time you will gain a solid linguistic basis for making yourself more familiar with the language and culture in Germany, with the country and its people. And this will be true for all areas of modern life, because our modern didactical approach will always concentrate on listening, reading, speaking and writing.

The Standard German course is designed for motivated learners at all levels: students will develop German language abilities in a small group with a goal-oriented syllabus. Alongside language classes, students will have plenty of time to explore and discover Berlin. Motivation and communication within the German language class are increased and maximized through the focus on important, current topics related to Germany and its peoples. These themes provide the framework within which students will learn and explore the German language. In order to expose students to as much variation as possible and increase the amount of different voices they hear, the Standard language courses are taught in teams. Intensive German Course Plus
The Intensive Course Plus trains you to use the German language for
business, studying or in a private sphere. In short term courses which
comprise a minimum of one week you can put your newly acquired German
knowledge into practice, or use your previous language knowledge
more skillfully. Prospective students, or participants wishing to take a
professional qualification in Germany, can attend a long term course and
systematically increase their German knowledge to reach the required language
level in a foreseeable time scale.
Besides group training, a very important focus of the Intensive Course Plus
is self-study: in the Carl Duisberg media resource centers all the course
participants have free usage of a multitude of self-study material at their
disposal, including up-to-date computer learning programs. Experienced

Intensive German Course
Unlike the Standard Course, the Intensive Course also provides enough time to work on current topics from politics, culture and science. Hence, the 4 language skills listening, reading, speaking and writing will not only be trained based on a textbook but the teachers also use supplementary, specially selected materials. It is the birthday of a famous German politician or artist? There are interesting political news from Berlin? It often happens that the class will discuss the current news and interesting events in the Intensive Course, that up-to-date topics will spontaneously become part of the program the class was going to work on at the moment. Thus, you study German and you will be fully informed at the same time!
The Intensive Course covers 24 lessons. 2 lessons each will be taught Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoons. While we closely work with the textbooks most of the time during the morning sessions, the afternoon seminars open up possibilities for an intensive communicative training. The teacher is organizing the instruction in such a way that all participants can actively participate in class, can communicate with each other and discuss their opinions. In such a lively atmosphere you can learn the language easily and spontaneously. And even rather complex grammatical structures are understood easily by being practiced and used creatively. And, of course, we also use these afternoon sessions for preparing the language exams.

It differs from our other course options – Standard and Intensive Course – in so far as with 28 lessons per week the Premium Course gives far more opportunities for considering personal requests and demands.
The Premium Course is the ideal possibility to acquire and improve German knowledge very fast. Especially if you plan to stay only for a short period of time, you can still reach more learning goals than in other types of courses. This is not at all surprising – after all, the Premium Course covers 28 lessons per week and is the most comprehensive group course we can offer.
