Course description

Many students work extremely hard to improve their skills in English in the hope they will be accepted into Canadian university programmes. This course ensures that students have the language and the skills to succeed in an academic environment.

You’ll get more out of this course if:
• You want to enter an English speaking university.
• You are committed to long term study and have a very high level of English.
• You want to learn the skills you will need to succeed at university.

During the University Skills Preparation course, students will work to develop the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking as they are needed in academic settings. They will learn to recognise, gather and organise relevant information from a variety of authentic source materials to successfully fulfill academic writing tasks.

• Giving seminars and presentations.

Critical reading and effective writing will be taught, and students will also gain the speaking experience to prepare them for delivering formal presentations and to participating in seminar discussions. Effective listening strategies in academic situations such as lectures and seminars will also be thoroughly discussed and practised.
