Course description

Two-week teacher development course designed for non-native English teachers.

The St Giles TEC is a teacher development course for non-first language speaker teachers of English who want to expand or update their professional knowledge and teaching methodology and to improve their own English language skills.

During the course, the participants explore specific aspects of teaching methodology and techniques as well as utilising and evaluating a range of teaching aids and resources. At the end of the course, all receive a St Giles 'Teacher of English Course' Certificate.

The areas covered include:

- Language development
- Background to language learning and teaching
- Different methodologies for teaching
- Classroom management and practical teaching skills
- Lesson planning
- Teaching aids and resources
- Observation of experienced teachers

The TEC courses are very flexible and can be adapted to suit the specific needs of the participants. We can also design tailored TEC courses for ‘closed groups’ of teachers travelling to St Giles together at any time of year.

In order to benefit from the course, the participants’ level of English should be at least B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). This is Equivalent to Cambridge English: First.

"Wonderful"

OFELIA BARROS, student from Spain

This course helped me a lot because I needed to improve my fluent speaking skills. And I had to speak all the time in English with my classmates and teachers. The place is very well located and equipped. It has a cafeteria with a mini soccer table. And then you go out to the garden, and at the back there is a ping pong table. I liked it very much.
