"I was expecting a little more."

Daniela Mamani Cortez, student from Bolivia

The classes were in small groups in the winter season, I liked that. Just the half of the teachers are good, the other half they don’t know what are they doing. The location it’s really great, accesible and near to everything in downtown. They had few activities but each one were great. It’s a small school, so-so for ESL not for academic English.

"I loved studying in International Gateway Kelowna."

Maria Celina Deschamps, student from Brazil

Dear,
I would like to talk why my experience on International Gateway Kelowna wasn´t how I was waiting. I wanted to acquire more fluency, but I came back to Brazil disappointed. I don´t needed to have basics notions, as alphabet and vocabulary how animals names, etc. I would need to talk elementary phrases to quotidian. I liked to study with teens 16 years old, but I noted they levels was different, because the majority is from orient countries where the alphabet is very different. Well, I liked Gary and Carhie teachers and the staff too. All very, very professionals. I could needed to have more conversation, reading books, writing letters or texts. The method applied leave-me confused... I am a lawyer and I would need more challenge. Beyond reading books and writing texts, phrases by conversation in airport, in supermarket, in pharmacy, in stores, in street, etc. I´m sorry, and thank you.

School location

The Okanagan Valley is blessed with one of Canada's most temperate climates and receives over 310 days of sunshine per year. The area is a popular destination for Canadian and International visitors, alike.

Highlights of the region include azure blue lake waters, internationally acclaimed vineyards, championship golf courses, lush orchards, and a healthy, semi-desert lifestyle. The Canadian Tourism Commission consistently rates the Okanagan Valley as Canada's premier golf destination, Japanese Newsweek Magazine lists Kelowna as one of the world's best places to retire and Frommer's Travel Guides ranks the Okanagan as one of the world's most alluring destinations. Big White, Apex, Silver Star, Mt. Baldy and Crystal Mountain Resorts offer skiing and snowboarding on near perfect 'champagne powder' from December to April. Big White is recognized by Luxury Travel Magazine as one of the world's 'TOP 5' ski resorts.

With a population of over 150,000, Kelowna is the largest city in the Okanagan Valley and the fastest growing in Canada. Kelowna is surrounded by picturesque Okanagan Lake and a visit would not be complete without trying to sight the legendary lake monster, the Ogopogo.

The BEST THING ABOUT KELOWNA for language learners is that 91% of the residents and all of our homestays speak English as a first language compared to less than 60% in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. This means you learn faster in this 'TRUE' English speaking environment!

Kelowna offers unique shops, restaurants, resorts, spas, health services, and entertainment venues. Prospera Place Stadium, the cities largest entertainment venue, hosts a wide variety of cultural and musical performances and is home to the Kelowna Rockets ice hockey team. Kelowna is also home to the Kelowna Chiefs and West Kelowna Warriors ice hockey teams, the Okanagan Sun Canadian football team and the Kelowna Falcons baseball team. Kelowna's population, in general, is very active and sports-minded and the city provides a fun, safe, relaxing and friendly environment in which to study.

Air Canada, West Jet, Yukon Air, Swoop, Flair Air, Sunwing and Horizon Airlines frequently service Kelowna from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Victoria, Toronto, Seattle, Phoenix, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancun. Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is Canada's 9th busiest with new routes and flights added on a regular basis.

Ask a question

"The student is already in Kelowna. He already has accommodation and does not need to be picked up and dropped off at the airport. How much is the course without that?"

Dale Lockhart, International Gateway Kelowna school representative

The registration and material fee is included in that cost. Unfortunately he cannot start until June 30th as we have no students here for the youth program before then.
