Cambridge First Certificate (8 weeks)

Course description

These 30-lesson-per-week courses are intensive programs limited to those students who will take the exams immediately following the courses. Both ELC locations offer 8-week and 11-week FCE and CAE Preparation Courses twice per year. Maximum class size is 12 students. All students must successfully pass a pre-test in order to participate in these courses. Students enrolled in the 8-week course join the 11-week course in progress. The First Certificate in English (FCE) is the most widely recognized proof of language ability at the upper intermediate level. The preparation program is designed to provide intensive study for the FCE examination. The FCE program is only open to students with an intermediate to advanced level of English. Upon enrollment in this course, each student will be asked to complete a pre-departure exam provided by ELC and return it to ELC. This test will allow ELC to evaluate the student’s readiness for the FCE course prior to their departure for the United States. After arriving at ELC, the student must take and pass a similar exam in order to participate in this course. Students in the FCE Course focus on all skill areas of the examination and use a variety of materials to improve their accuracy and fluency. Mock tests are administered periodically to simulate the final exam, which is given the week after the course ends.
