International House: Newcastle Business English + General English (BE15+GE10) General English courses include grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students are classed according to the level achieved in the placement test on the first day ranging from complete beginner to higher advanced. Students can combine a 10 or 20 hour General English (GE) course with a Personal Study Programme (PSP) class to increase study up to 15 or 25 hours a week. General English 10 hours per week can also be combined with English for Academic purposes (AE), Business English (BE) or Cambridge Examination Courses (CE) to increase study up to 25 hours a week. International House Newcastle teaches using the communicative method and particular emphasis is placed on enabling the student to communicate effectively in English. All International House Newcastle teachers are fully qualified teachers of the English language and most have many years of experience teaching in different parts of the world. Progress in learning English is monitored by continuous assessment from the English language teacher, tutorials and internal tests. All English language students will receive a weekly work plan from their teachers and personal tutorials will take place on a regular basis. Course materials will be provided for all students, including a study pack and vocabulary book. All English language skills and grammar are considered within a business context. The course consists of 10 hours per week of classroom teaching plus 5 hours per week of Individual Business Programme.
