Located in the northeastern corner of Africa, Egypt is famous for its pyramids, the Sphinx, ancient Luxor, and the River Nile. Nearly all of Egypt is desert, but the small part that isn't - the valley of the Nile River - is vital to the nation (95% of the population lives here). The attractions of Egypt are not only the monuments of the Nile Valley and the souks (bazaars), mosques, and madrasahs (buildings used for teaching Islamic theology), but the natural wonders of the Red Sea, Sinai, and the Eastern and Western deserts: fantastic coral reefs, tropical fish, dunes, and rock scapes. Egypt also has excellent food, fresh fruits, and juices -- although travelers will need to be thoughtful in their decisions where and what to eat: try the Ful Medames or Falafel with Karkadae, a hibiscus tea popular in the country.
